The Alberta Winter Games are a multi-sport event for developing athletes, aged 11-17 years. The athletes are selected to represent the eight zones in Alberta in 20 sports such as badminton, gymnastics, skiing and skating.
The Alberta Winter Games were first hosted in 1976 in Banff, Alberta. Occurring every two years since, the Games are returning to the Bow Valley (Banff and Canmore) for the 20th year celebration.
The communities of Banff and Canmore starting lobbying for and formulating a bid in 2010 and were awarded the games in 2011. The Games will occur between February 6 to 9, 2014.
